If you’ve been on TikTok recently, chances are you’ve heard the line:
“My name is Pink and I’m really glad to meet you…”
It’s from Illegal by PinkPantheress a song she says is about “buying illegal drugs or hiring a male escort.”
But TikTok has taken the sound in a different direction. Instead of focusing on the song’s original meaning, users are using it to explore quirky relationship dynamics and surprising opposites in just 13 seconds.

What’s the “Illegal” trend about?
It’s simple. Two people stand side by side, shaking hands and lip-syncing the song. The text overlays reveal how different their upbringings or habits are.
It usually goes like this:
- “My name is Pink and I’m really glad to meet you”
→ “I grew up with strict parents.” - “You’re recommended to me by some people”
→ “I grew up with chill parents.” - “Hey! OoOooOooOooo is this illegal?”
→ They’re dating now. - “Hey! OoOooOooOooo it feels illegal.”
→ And somehow, it works.
That their connection feels so unlikely or mismatched, it has to be “illegal.” Think of it as TikTok’s way of saying, “How are we even together?”
Couple creators Taylor and Sophia did it perfectly with:
- “Raised in a water-only family”
- “Raised in an appetizer and soda family”
- “Is this illegal?”
- “It feels illegal.”
The trend is everywhere.
The sound has now been used in over 841,000 videos, including ones by TikTok stars like Huddy (37M views), Brooke Monk (21M views), and even PinkPantheress herself (36M+ views).
