Newly crowned Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux, is eagerly anticipating her return to her hometown of Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape, marking her first visit since winning the prestigious pageant in August.
The reigning queen will be honoured at homecoming events scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
“I am so excited to be going back to my hometown, Oudtshoorn, for the homecoming. It holds a special place in my heart, as it’s where I truly learned the importance of community and helping one another,” she expressed.
As part of her homecoming, a choir performance will be held in the renowned Cango Caves. Tickets are priced at R200, with all proceeds going to a charity of her choice.
Born in Sasolburg in the Free State and raised in Oudtshoorn, Le Roux was diagnosed with hearing loss at the age of one. She relies on a cochlear implant, which she received through donations raised by her community, as her parents could not afford the procedure.
Le Roux made history as the first hearing-impaired contestant to win the Miss South Africa title.
“This win isn’t just mine; it’s Oudtshoorn’s win too. I hope it continues to inspire everyone from small towns to pursue their dreams wholeheartedly,” she said.
