Selena Gomez has debunked speculations of cosmetic surgery.
The 32-year-old singer and actress, also known for her Emmy-nominated role in Only Murders in the Building, took to TikTok to address speculation about her appearance.
In a candid comment, Gomez revealed she’s had Botox.
“Honestly I hate this, I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone”, she wrote.
She made her statement in a video posted by Marissa Barrionuevo, a plastic surgeon assistant who often shares insights on celebrity procedures.
Interestingly, Barrionuevo hadn’t even speculated about Gomez’s appearance, instead suggesting her lupus diagnosis might be contributing to changes in her looks.
“I have no idea what she has gotten done,” said Barrionuevo.
“I think she’s been through so much in her life, especially medically related, so I don’t think it’s fair to speculate whether or not she’s gotten cosmetic things done. At the end of the day, let’s just leave her be.”
Although Marissa Barrionuevo didn’t make any direct claims about Selena Gomez’s appearance, she did post a side-by-side comparison of the star – one photo from a few years ago and another from the 2023 Golden Globes.
This sparked a flurry of comments, with many fans jumping to their own conclusions about Gomez’s looks.
“I was on stripes because of flare up,” Gomez wrote in her comment, many assuming “stripes” was an autocorrect for “steroids.”
Marissa Barrionuevo took to TikTok to issue a heartfelt apology to Selena Gomez on Sunday, July 28.
“I really hope Selena Gomez does not hate me,” she began. “… I agree with you, I do think we should leave you alone and I said that in the video. I totally understand you still not appreciating it.”
After Gomez denied speculation about her appearance, Barrionuevo wanted to make amends, acknowledging that her previous post may have contributed to the star’s frustration.
With empathy and understanding, Barrionuevo acknowledged that Gomez owes no one an explanation for her changing looks over the years.
She emphasized her intention to discuss celebrity cosmetic procedures with kindness and respect, never aiming to tear others down.
“That is never, ever my intention when it comes to it,” she said. “I really do mean the best. So I apologize if this rubbed you the wrong way.”
