40-Year-Old Mother Facing Manslaughter Charges After 3-Year-Old Daughter Was Locked in Car

Kelly Brown, a 40-year-old mother, is currently facing manslaughter charges after her 3-year-old daughter and a dog were tragically found dead inside her locked car. According to police reports, Brown initially claimed that she had fallen into a river at the time of the incident. The heartbreaking discovery took place on August 9 in Milford, where deputies found little Fiona and Penelope inside the vehicle, both lifeless. Brown, who hails from Pennsylvania, had been on a road trip to visit family in Maine, but they never arrived at their destination. Concerned family members reported them missing two days before the fatal incident.

Authorities had been trying to locate Brown and Fiona prior to the tragic discovery, as details emerged that Brown might have been experiencing hallucinations. Allegedly, she had been hearing voices instructing her on what to do, leading her to leave her daughter and pet inside the car while she tended to cleaning up trash. She claimed to authorities that she had a mishap at the river, during which Fiona and Penelope sadly succumbed to suffocation inside the vehicle.

Contrary to Brown’s claims, surveillance footage revealed a different narrative. The footage captured Brown leaving and returning to the scene hours later, where she relayed her river incident to the police. Despite showing injuries and insisting that she had fallen into the river earlier, Brown’s story did not align with the evidence presented by authorities. Tragically, upon learning of her daughter and dog’s passing, Brown was devastated, exclaiming that they were her entire world.

Following the incident, Kelly Brown was charged with manslaughter and her bail set at $50,000, with restrictions not to have contact with minors under 18. While Fiona’s cause of death remained pending as of August 11, the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner suggested hyperthermia as a probable cause due to abnormally high body temperature.
