4 Surprising Discoveries at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix

The scorching heat of a Miami Saturday welcomed me as I stepped into my very first Formula 1 race. The energy in the air was electric, with live sets from Marshmello and DJ Diesel (also known as Shaquille O’Neal) blaring from the Jumbotrons at the Miami International Autodrome. Fans everywhere were proudly displaying the colors of their favorite drivers.

Exploring the different activations at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix track, I quickly realized how exhilarating and jam-packed my first Formula 1 weekend would be. Despite spending two full days there, it was impossible to see and do everything while also catching the races. But as I made my way through the grounds and studied the map, there were still some surprises about the overall experience in South Florida. Read on to discover the four most surprising things I encountered at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix.

I was pleasantly surprised by just how family-friendly the entire race experience was. From young kids in their driver gear to older adults soaking in the festive atmosphere, there was something for everyone. Between races, there were endless activities to enjoy, from delicious food to simulator games that let you feel like an F1 driver. Even if you couldn’t make it to the Miami International Autodrome, there were pop-ups all over the city, including fan zones like the Official Fan Fest at the beach and the Racing Fan Fest in Wynwood, all free for anyone to attend.

One of the most budget-friendly ticket options for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix is the campus pass, akin to a festival ticket. With this pass, you have access to the race facilities without an assigned seat in the Grandstands. You can roam freely, try out the different themed zones, sample all the food and drinks, and catch the race from various viewing spots. I particularly enjoyed exploring the grounds and visiting the Paddock area to spot some of the top drivers. The campus also offered fun games and activities like the Red Bull Pit Stop Challenge and Gaming Trailer, along with stunning art installations and luxury car displays.

While there are Grandstands and risers around the track, one seating option that stood out was The MSC Yacht Club experience. This exclusive hospitality zone within the Marina zone of the campus provided a luxurious view of turns five through nine. Each deck of the yacht-inspired structure offered a different experience, from trackside cabanas to lounge seating and a pool, culminating in limited-access areas with panoramic track views. The premium food and drinks included in the ticket cost, created in partnership with Bagatelle, added to the upscale experience.

The Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix expertly showcased the local culture of the city, with zones inspired by iconic Miami neighborhoods. Each zone featured local restaurants and artists, bringing a vibrant touch to the event. After immersing myself in the F1 Miami Grand Prix for a weekend, I left with a newfound appreciation for Formula 1 and an excitement to potentially attend another race in the future. Whether planning for next year’s Grand Prix or returning to Miami, the event left a lasting impression that I look forward to revisiting.
