Whispers of Change at Universal Orlando: Excitement Builds for Revamps and New Additions

As whispers of change swirled around Universal Orlando Resort, fans held their breath in anticipation. Closures were on the horizon, along with new dining concepts and a replacement for Lost Continent. The excitement was palpable, with a CityWalk addition tied to a familiar name adding to the mystery.

The iconic Horror Make-Up Show is set to close temporarily on May 12, 2026. Universal Orlando plans to revamp the attraction, blending classic and modern horror elements while maintaining its quirky, comedic vibe that has entertained audiences since the ’90s. The updated version promises to be “shockingly fun,” teasing fans with the promise of a new show to come.

Over at Islands of Adventure, the beloved Lost Continent is slowly fading away to make room for a new themed area. While details of the replacement remain under wraps, construction plans are already in motion. As part of this transition, the cherished Mythos Restaurant is set to close its doors in 2027, marking the end of an era. Universal has yet to announce what will take its place, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the unveiling of their plans.

In another culinary change, Thunder Falls Terrace is gearing up for a transformation this summer. Universal Orlando plans to rebuild it as the primary full-service dining experience for Islands of Adventure, with an expected opening in 2027. The closure of Mythos Restaurant in the same year raises the question of whether Thunder Falls Terrace will be able to capture the same devoted following that its predecessor held for two decades.

Celebrity duo Joey Fatone and Joe Mulvihill are bringing their joint venture, Fat One’s Hot Dogs & Italian Ice, to Universal CityWalk. The concept, centered around hot dogs and Italian ices, will replace the Hot Dog Hall of Fame in July, promising a new culinary experience for visitors.

In addition to these changes, Universal Orlando has confirmed the arrival of popular dining options like Five Guys and Luke Combs’ Category 10 to CityWalk. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a high-speed roller coaster, is also set to make its debut at Universal Studios Florida in 2027. With further details about these projects yet to be revealed, excitement continues to build for the future of Universal Orlando.
