The Rise of Binge-Watching: A Weekend Habit Turned Part-Time Job

As the weekend draws to a close, your eyes may feel just a tad dry and scratchy, reminding you of the hours spent binge-watching your favorite shows from the comfort of your couch. According to a recent March 2026 report, this screen-induced discomfort is a result of a weekend habit that has become a part-time job for many.

Delaware has emerged as the nation’s binge-watching capital, with residents averaging over three hours of screen time daily. The search for content is relentless in the state, with Netflix and HBO search bars getting more hits here than anywhere else in the country. Meanwhile, Montana takes the title for weekday warriors, managing 3.5 hours of streaming between Monday and Friday, with some enthusiasts watching for over four hours even before the weekend kicks in.

Come Saturday, Maine residents take the lead in viewing hours, with a whopping 113% spike in screen time over the weekend. They dedicate over four hours a day to non-stop marathoning, while Colorado sees a 135% increase as residents attempt to cram a week’s worth of entertainment into just two days.

Gidon Sadovsky, CEO of Overnight Glasses, points out that it’s not just the TV screen that’s causing eye strain, but also the second screen in our hands. He explains that the constant shift in focus between devices can lead to dryness, blurring, and tension by the end of the weekend.

From Rhode Island to New Hampshire, viewers across the country are immersed in the algorithm-driven world of weekend binge-watching. The search for new shows has become a primary pastime, even in states like Nebraska and Nevada. Remember to give your eyes a break this weekend and blink away the screen-induced strain.
