Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian faced a memorable moment during the band’s performance on the 70000 Tons Of Metal cruise. The heavy metal group kicked off the year with a high-energy show on the massive cruise, which sailed from Miami, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas. Amidst the festivities, Scott Ian encountered a serious health scare.
During an interview with Australia’s independent music web platform, Heavy Magazine, Scott Ian shared his experience of injuring his back during the second day of the performance. The band had to battle extreme weather conditions caused by a “bad storm” near South Florida and the Bahamas. Despite the freezing temperatures, Anthrax performed outdoors on the boat’s big pool deck. Scott Ian’s physical performance was made more challenging by the cold weather, but they persevered for the 3,000 fans in attendance.
The band’s commitment to their fans led them to push through the cold, despite the physical toll it took on Scott Ian. He explained the aftermath of the show, revealing the intense pain and back spasms that left him unable to walk properly for around a week. The injury persisted as the band continued touring South America and embarked on a tour with Megadeth and Exodus in Canada.
Despite the agony, Scott Ian soldiered on, getting through the shows at only about “40 percent” of his normal ability. Each night on the tour involved visits to massage therapists and osteopaths to manage the pain. Now, Scott Ian is focused on his recovery through physical therapy, aiming to regain his strength before the upcoming Australian tour in March.
As Scott Ian navigates the challenges of his injury, his determination and resilience shine through. His dedication to his craft and his fans is unwavering, reminding us of the resilience required in the world of heavy metal music.
