Orleans: A Farewell Tour to Remember

Orleans, the legendary soft rock band that has been enchanting audiences for over fifty years, recently announced that 2026 will mark their final year of touring. In a heartfelt message shared with their dedicated fans, longtime member Lance Hoppen confirmed this bittersweet decision. In reflecting on their journey, Hoppen shared, “For a variety of reasons, I’ve decided that this will be the final year for Orleans as a live band. It’s not a decision that has been made quickly nor lightly.”

Formed in 1972 in Woodstock, New York, Orleans became synonymous with hits like “Dance with Me,” “Still the One,” and “Love Takes Time,” solidifying their status as one of the defining acts of the 1970s soft rock scene. Blending pop, rock, and country influences, the band cultivated a loyal following through their timeless music and electrifying live performances.

Acknowledging the challenges of life on the road, Hoppen expressed mixed emotions about stepping away from the stage. “On the one hand, I’m sure I will miss the gigs, the fans, the joy of playing this music with this fine band,” he shared. “On the other hand, the travel has become more and more difficult due to extreme weather, the airlines, rising costs, my increasing age … It’s time to turn the page.”

As Orleans prepares to bid farewell to touring, they have scheduled over 40 shows throughout the year, culminating in a final run set to conclude in March 2027 aboard the Rock ‘n’ Romance cruise. This last hurrah will give fans a precious opportunity to witness the band’s magic one last time.

Reflecting on the band’s storied history, Hoppen offered heartfelt gratitude to founding members John Hall, Wells Kelly, and his late brother Larry Hoppen. Their vote of confidence in him shaped his life forever after, leaving an indelible mark on his musical journey.

Fans swiftly responded to the news with messages of appreciation and nostalgia, underscoring the impact Orleans and the Hoppen Brothers have had on their lives. From memories tied to their music to the joy of experiencing classics like “Still The One” live, fans expressed deep gratitude for the band’s enduring legacy.

For a band that has shaped the musical landscape for over five decades, the end of touring marks the closure of a remarkable chapter. With enduring songs, devoted fans, and a legacy that will endure beyond their final show, Orleans leaves an indelible mark on music history.
