Orlando’s Typhoon Lagoon Closed Due to Unusual Cold Spell

Orlando, Florida has been experiencing lower than usual temperatures this week, prompting Walt Disney World to make the decision to close its water park, Typhoon Lagoon. Initially planned to be closed from Monday, January 12 to Wednesday, January 14, the closure has now been extended to five days, with Typhoon Lagoon scheduled to reopen on Saturday, January 17, according to the official website.

The forecast for Orlando predicts lows in the 50s for Monday through Wednesday, possibly dipping into the 30s on Thursday and Friday. With the cold temperatures expected to continue through the weekend and into the next week, visitors to the theme park should stay updated in case Disney World extends the closure again.

Just last week, Disney expressed excitement about welcoming visitors to Typhoon Lagoon this month. Hopefully, guests will be able to return to the water park soon to enjoy its attractions before the planned closure in February. Typhoon Lagoon is a favorite among Disney World fans, offering a variety of exciting and fun attractions such as the Crush ‘n’ Gusher raft ride, Gangplank Falls large inner tube ride, and the Miss Adventure Falls family raft ride.

While Typhoon Lagoon remains closed this week, other Disney World theme parks like Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT are expected to continue with their scheduled hours. Disney Springs will also be open as usual.

Typhoon Lagoon is set to undergo its annual refurbishment starting on February 15, with no exact reopening date announced by Disney World. During this time, Blizzard Beach, the second water park in Walt Disney World Florida, will reopen on February 15 after completing its own refurbishment period. Both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are expected to operate simultaneously between May and September, the main water park season for Disney World guests.

Overall, the closure of Typhoon Lagoon presents an opportunity for guests to explore other attractions at Disney World while looking forward to the park’s reopening in the future.
