NAPTIP, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, recently made headlines for reuniting a 5-year-old girl with her parents in Yobe State. The young girl, Rahama Ibrahim, was abducted by a suspected child trafficker and thankfully rescued by NAPTIP after being intercepted and arrested in Abuja by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The agency’s Director General, Binta Adamu Bello, emphasised the importance of parents being cautious about who they entrust their children to, as it can make them vulnerable to trafficking and abduction. The child was handed over to her family at the Government House in Damaturu, where her father expressed gratitude for the care and support provided during the rescue process.
Yobe State Deputy Governor, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, commended NAPTIP for their efforts and assured the agency of the state government’s support. The Director General highlighted the need for parents to be vigilant and protect their children from potential dangers.
NAPTIP continues to work towards ensuring the safety and protection of Nigerian children, with the support of partners like the DSS. The successful reunion of Rahama Ibrahim with her family serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding children from the dangers of trafficking and abduction.
