Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been disqualified from serving as a trustee for five years by the Charity Commission due to serious mismanagement of funds at her charity, Fashion For Relief.
The investigation revealed that only a small fraction of the charity’s funds was allocated to actual charitable causes. As a result, the charity has been dissolved and removed from the register of charities.
The mismanagement included the use of charity funds to cover Campbell’s stay at a five-star hotel in Cannes, as well as spa treatments, room service, and cigarettes. The Charity Commission found that between April 2016 and July 2022, only 8.5% of the charity’s total expenditure went towards charitable grants.
In response, Campbell stated that she had entrusted control of the charity to a legal representative and was not directly managing it. She expressed concern over the findings and mentioned that she had launched her own investigation into the matter. The Charity Commission has since recovered £344,000 and safeguarded an additional £98,000 of charitable funds. Along with Campbell, other trustees were disqualified for various periods from holding senior management roles in any charity in England and Wales.
In addition to this development, Campbell, a globally recognised supermodel, welcomed her second child, a son, last year, following the birth of her daughter in 2021, shortly before her 51st birthday.
