Is Euphoria Season 3 Getting Cancelled?

After rumours of the cancellation of the Euphoria series spread across social media, HBO has assured fans that Euphoria will indeed return. A representative for HBO confirmed to The Independent that the popular show is still set to enter production in 2025, stating, “Nothing has changed.”

HBO first renewed Euphoria for a third season in February 2022, initially planning to begin filming in the spring or early summer of 2024. However, due to the recent writers’ and actors’ strikes and subsequent script delays, production was postponed. HBO’s Executive Vice President of Programming, Francesca Orsi, shared earlier this year, “We could not be happier with our creative partnership with [creator] Sam [Levinson] and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.”

As fans wait, the cast has also been busy with other projects. Zendaya, who portrays the central character Rue Bennett, is just one of the stars who have been in demand, alongside fellow cast members like Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Hunter Schafer.

Season 2 of Euphoria ended with a tense cliffhanger: Ashtray’s (Javon Walton) death and a violent police standoff left Fezco’s (Angus Cloud) fate uncertain. The season also left fans questioning Rue’s ongoing battle with sobriety. Her closing voiceover hinted at her progress, but her long-term recovery remains unclear: “I stayed clean through the rest of the school year… I don’t know if this feeling will last forever, but I am trying.”

Tragically, Angus Cloud, who portrayed Fezco, passed away unexpectedly in August 2023 at age 25 due to an accidental overdose. His untimely death has left many wondering about the character’s trajectory in Season 3. Additionally, Barbie Ferreira, who portrayed Kat Hernandez, announced her departure from the series in a heartfelt post on social media, leaving fans curious about how the show will address her character’s absence.

In interviews, Sydney Sweeney (Cassie Howard) has expressed her eagerness to return, saying, “She is definitely one of the most special characters for me, and I love my Euphoria family, so I look forward to it.”

While no premiere date for Season 3 has been announced, fans can revisit Rue’s journey and the emotionally charged lives of East Highland’s students as Euphoria Seasons 1 and 2 are available for streaming on Max.
