How To Heal From Feelings of Comparison and Inadequacy: These Women Share Tips

One of the things everyone must face is feelings of comparison and inadequacy. Often these feelings exist to point us to where our minds believe we should be. However, if not managed and properly addressed, it can devolve into an inability to properly appreciate the successes and wins in our lives as women.

In our latest piece, Urban Woman Magazine asked some women to share how they deal with feelings of comparison and inadequacy.

Read their responses below.

For me I just remind myself that me and the person I’m comparing myself to are on totally different journeys and while I can admire, I must not think our journeys must look totally alike.

Well, it’s not so easy to do but I look at the goals I have already achieved and tell myself that if I’m making progress and putting one foot in front of the other, then all I need to do is to keep doing the work and showing up.

Each time I feel inadequate, I just have to remind myself of how I trained myself through school and still came out with a first class. I was working while schooling and though things can be tough at times and some other people have bagged jobs I wish I had, that alone is a win for me.

I finished two years ago and while I have been job hunting for a role in my field, reminding myself of the above encourages me to keep putting in the work. I recently got a copywriting job and I’m very proud of that. I still wish I’m not living with my parents but I know better things are coming.
