Escaped Utah Man Faces Sentencing for Assault in Scotland

A man from Utah thought he could escape his past by faking his death and fleeing to Scotland. However, the law eventually caught up to him, and he is now facing jail time for sexual assault. Nicholas Rossi, 38, has been sentenced for assaulting two women in Utah in 2008. He will face another sentencing in November for two separate crimes, with the possibility of a life sentence looming over him. Authorities identified him as the perpetrator in 2018, despite his attempt to fake his death with a phony obituary claiming he died from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Rossi was apprehended by authorities while attempting to evade capture at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Despite posing as an Irish orphan, a DNA test confirmed his identity. One of his victims bravely faced him in court, pleading for safety and accountability rather than vengeance. Throughout the trial, Rossi maintained his innocence, insisting that the women were lying. Despite his protests, Rossi is now behind bars after a lengthy time spent on the run.

His victims found some comfort in knowing that he is no longer free. Rossi had met one of the women through a Craigslist ad, and their relationship quickly escalated to engagement. However, he later assaulted her after driving her home one evening. The exact length of his prison sentence remains uncertain, but it is clear that his days of traveling freely are over.
