Eminem’s Mom Debbie Nelson Dead At 69 After Battle With Lung Cancer

Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson, has passed away after a battle with advanced lung cancer, according to TMZ.

She was 69 years old.

According to reports, she died last night in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Her diagnosis was first made public in September, with reports at that time suggesting she had a limited time left to live.

Eminem’s relationship with his mother has been widely known for its ups and downs, marked by drama and dysfunction.

In the 1999 song “My Name Is,” the rapper claimed that his mother did “more dope than” he did.

Debbie sued him for defamation in 1999, which further strained their relationship, and she also published a tell-all memoir in 2007 titled “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem.”

In response, Debbie sued him for $11 million, alleging defamation of character.

The rapper’s lawyer later stated that the lawsuit stemmed from a “lifelong strained relationship” between them.

Ultimately, the lawsuit resulted in Debbie receiving $25,000, most of which went to her attorney. A judge determined that she was entitled to only $1,600 of the settlement, as reported by ABC News in 2001.

However, over time, they made efforts to reconcile. Eminem’s 2013 song “Headlights” marked a significant turning point, where he expressed regret for his harsh words and apologized for their troubled relationship.

In recent years, their bond improved, and Debbie even congratulated Eminem on his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
