Delta Airlines Introduces New Comfort Basic Fare for Travelers Seeking Extra Legroom

If you’re someone who values a little extra legroom on flights and doesn’t mind sacrificing the freedom to choose your seat, Delta Airlines may have just introduced your new favorite spot on the plane.

Launching today, November 19, Delta’s new “Comfort Basic” fare offers more space to stretch your legs, early boarding privileges, and even reserved overhead bin space. Depending on what you prioritize when flying, this new seating option could be just right for you—or it might miss the mark entirely.

Delta has already won over many fans with its Comfort+ category, known for its extra legroom, gourmet snacks, and power outlets under the seats. The Travel Bite travel blog raves, “The upgrade is worth it for international flights. From the extra legroom, to the gourmet snacks and the power outlet under the seat, it’s a lot like having a cozy little office in the sky.”

Comfort Basic, available for booking starting today, promises a few perks reminiscent of Delta’s Comfort+ category, but at a lower fare. This new option includes 3-4 extra inches of legroom compared to the Main Cabin, dedicated Comfort Basic zones for quicker boarding and deplaning, complimentary overhead bin space, Zone 3 boarding, eligibility for Delta Sky Club access, 2 miles per dollar spent toward SkyMiles (excluding taxes/fees), and complimentary beer, wine, and spirits on most flights.

Although Comfort Basic offers more comfort and perks compared to Main Basic, it still comes with some limitations. For example, this option is not available on every route, does not allow for advance seat selection, and has limited upgrade and refund options. Despite these restrictions, Comfort Basic provides a balance between the no-frills Basic Economy and the more luxurious Comfort+.

For travelers who prioritize comfort and a few extra luxuries, Comfort Basic might be the perfect fit. However, for those who prefer flexibility in seat selection or utilize miles strategically, Main Basic or a higher fare class may be more suitable.

As airlines continue to offer various seating options to cater to different traveler preferences, Comfort Basic presents a versatile middle ground. If you’re willing to forego seat choice for a bit more comfort and convenience, this new option from Delta might be worth trying out—just keep in mind that availability is limited to select domestic routes.
