David Ellefson Makes Public Plea for Megadeth Farewell Tour Reunion

As Megadeth gears up for their highly anticipated 2026 farewell tour, the band’s former member, David Ellefson, has made a public plea to reunite with the group on stage. Ellefson, a founding member who was with Megadeth from its inception in 1983 until his departure in 2021, expressed his desire to join the tour during an interview with rock radio station UnDinamo – La última Radio de Rock.

Ellefson’s departure from the band in 2021 was surrounded by controversy, with frontman Dave Mustaine citing allegations of sexual misconduct with an underage fan as the reason for his removal. However, Ellefson has consistently denied these allegations, and the other party involved has also denied being underage at the time of the alleged incidents.

Despite the tensions surrounding his exit, Ellefson remains hopeful that he will have the opportunity to reconcile with his former bandmates and take the stage once again. He pointed to former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman’s guest appearances with the band in 2023 as a sign that reunions within the group are possible.

While Ellefson expressed his willingness to mend bridges and reunite with Megadeth, Mustaine’s recent statements in Guitar World suggest that inviting past members back may not be in the cards for the farewell tour. Mustaine emphasized the importance of focusing on the present and creating an authentic experience for fans, rather than bringing back former members for nostalgia’s sake.

As Megadeth’s global farewell tour kicks off in Abbotsford, Canada, Ellefson’s future involvement remains uncertain. Despite the challenges that stand in the way of a reunion, Ellefson’s dedication to the band and hopes for reconciliation with his former bandmates are clear. Only time will tell if fans will see a reunion of the classic Megadeth lineup on stage once again.
