Cynthia Erivo Shines in One-Woman Dracula on London’s West End

Cynthia Erivo is taking London’s West End by storm in a one-woman stage adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Playing all 23 characters in this production, Erivo is showcasing her exceptional talent and versatility on stage.

In a recent interview with Broadway Buzz, Erivo shared her motivation for taking on this challenging role. “I wanted to do this because it scared the s–t out of me,” she admitted. “Usually the things I pick are the things that I know are going to challenge me. It wouldn’t go away. And because it wouldn’t leave me, I thought, I think I am going to have to do it.”

Directed by Kip Williams, who also adapted the Tony Award-nominated The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dracula promises to be a must-see production on the West End. Despite her busy schedule preparing for the show, Erivo will not be attending the Golden Globe Awards.

Erivo’s stellar performance as Elphaba in Wicked: For Good has earned her a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. This nomination marks her second in this category, making her the first Black woman to achieve such a feat at the Golden Globes.

In addition to Erivo’s nomination, her co-star in Wicked: For Good, Ariana Grande, is also nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. The film itself has received multiple nominations, showcasing the talent and impact of the entire cast and crew.

As Erivo continues to make waves in the entertainment industry, her dedication to challenging herself and breaking barriers serves as an inspiration to women everywhere. With each new role, she paves the way for others to follow in her footsteps, creating opportunities for more diverse and inclusive storytelling.
