Anthrax: 42 Years of Metal Excellence

Anthrax, the iconic metal band, recently marked a significant milestone by celebrating the 42nd anniversary of their debut album, “Fistful of Metal.” The album, released on Jan. 28, 1984, featured 10 tracks, including a cover of Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen.” This record was the only one to showcase vocalist Neil Turbin and original bassist Dan Lilker before they were replaced by Matt Fallon and Frank Bello, respectively. Despite receiving mixed reviews initially, “Fistful of Metal” is considered a pivotal piece of Anthrax’s history, leading to their rise to fame with subsequent albums like “Spreading the Disease” and “Among the Living.”

Guitarist and co-founder Scott Ian credits bands like Judas Priest, Motörhead, and Black Sabbath as influences that shaped Anthrax’s sound. The emerging thrash metal scene of the time reflected the band’s desire to emulate their musical heroes. Over the years, Anthrax underwent several lineup changes, with the current roster consisting of Ian, Bello, Charlie Benante, Joey Belladonna, and Jon Donais.

Following the release of “Fistful of Metal,” Anthrax went on to release multiple studio albums, culminating in their latest project, “For All Kings,” in 2016. The band is gearing up for a world tour, with stops in Canada, Australia, and Japan, as well as opening for Iron Maiden’s “Run For Your Lives World Tour” alongside Megadeth. Fans can enjoy Anthrax’s discography on various streaming platforms and purchase tickets for upcoming shows on their website.

As Anthrax continues to make their mark on the music industry, their legacy as pioneers of thrash metal remains strong. The band’s journey from humble beginnings in Queens, New York, to international success is a testament to their passion for pushing the boundaries of metal music. From local gigs to world tours, Anthrax’s enduring legacy is a testament to their raw energy and dedication to their craft.
