Kim Gordon, known for her influential music career since the 1980s, has once again captured attention with her latest track, “DIRTY TECH,” which was released on February 11. The song is the second single off her upcoming solo album, PLAY ME, which explores the dynamic power struggle between humans and robots.
In the music video for “DIRTY TECH,” directed by Moni Haworth, the 72-year-old Gordon can be seen in a sleek office setting, seamlessly blending business attire with high fashion as she moves through the space surrounded by wires.
Exploring the theme of artificial intelligence in the track, Gordon shared in a press release from Grandstand Media, “I was kind of musing about, is my next boss going to be an AI chatbot?” She further expressed concerns about the abstract concept that people may not fully comprehend the potential consequences of technological advances.
PLAY ME is set to release in full on March 13, 2026, and the tracklist includes various songs like “GIRL WITH A LOOK,” “NO HANDS,” and “NOT TODAY.” The first single off the album, “NOT TODAY,” was released on January 14, accompanied by a short film directed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy, known for their fashion brand Rodarte.
In the film, Gordon showcases her moves in a vintage 2008 Rodarte dress. Laura Mulleavy explained, “Kim wanted to dance, she wanted to move, so we focused on having movement in these different states and getting to that feeling of being alone in a space.”
Known for her groundbreaking career as a co-founder of Sonic Youth in 1981, Gordon has continued to push the boundaries of music and style, playing with various artists and bands. In 2019, she released her debut solo album, marking a new chapter in her longstanding music career.
Upcoming in April 2026, Gordon will embark on a tour around the UK and Europe, bringing her unique blend of music and fashion to audiences across the continent.
