Jane Wiedlin, known as the guitarist and backing vocalist for the iconic ’80s band The Go-Go’s, also has an acting career that fans may not be aware of. In 1986, she appeared in Star Trek IV, a fact recently highlighted by The Go-Go’s official Instagram account on #waybackwednesday.
The post featured black-and-white photos of Wiedlin in her Star Trek costume, along with Leonard Nimoy, one of the original stars of the series. Interestingly, Wiedlin also had a band called FroSTed in the mid-’90s, with the ‘ST’ standing for Star Trek.
In addition to her role in Star Trek IV, Wiedlin appeared in other films such as Clue (1985), a version of Sleeping Beauty (1987), and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989). She continued to take on occasional acting roles into the 2000s.
Interestingly, Wiedlin isn’t the only famous musician from a successful ’80s band with a connection to Leonard Nimoy. Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles, who grew up close to the Nimoy family, had him star in the music video for “Going Down to Liverpool.” In the video, Nimoy drives the Bangles to a concert while their cover of a Katrina and the Waves song plays on the radio.
Nimoy, known for his role in Star Trek, also made appearances in other music videos, like Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song” in 2011. He even recorded his own music, including the novelty track “Music to Watch Space Girls By” from his 1967 album Leonard Nimoy Presents Mr. Spock’s Music from Outer Space, showcasing his diverse talents beyond acting.
The connection between musicians and actors like Wiedlin and Hoffs with classic TV and movie stars like Nimoy adds an interesting layer to their already impressive careers—a testament to their versatility and creativity in the entertainment industry.
