In a tragic incident at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport in Colorado, two small planes collided midair, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to three others. The collision occurred as a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 were attempting to land at the airport on a Sunday morning. Both planes crashed to the ground and caught fire upon impact.
Emergency responders, including the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Morgan Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, and local fire and ambulance services, quickly arrived at the scene to assist. Despite the efforts of bystanders who rushed to help, one person was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morgan County Coroner’s Office.
The identities of the victims have not been released as the investigation into the crash is ongoing. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting inquiries to determine the cause of the collision.
Experts have highlighted that Fort Morgan Municipal Airport is classified as an “uncontrolled airport,” meaning there is no control tower to manage air traffic. Pilots are responsible for communicating their positions to ensure safe operations. Investigators will focus on radio communications between the pilots to understand if proper protocols were followed.
