In the bustling city of Miami, a 20-year-old woman named Esther Torres made headlines for her daring crimes involving luxury watches. Torres recently entered into a plea agreement, avoiding prison time for charges related to armed robbery, burglary, and grand theft. Instead, she received a sentence of five years on probation.
According to reports from the Miami Beach Police Department, Torres was involved in two incidents in March 2025 where she pepper-sprayed and robbed men of their high-end watches. In one instance at the Breakwater Hotel, Torres targeted a victim and took both his watch and valuables. Another incident took place at the Fontainebleau Hotel, where Torres stole a man’s Rolex Submariner after pepper-spraying him. The victims were left shocked and shaken by the attacks, with one even experiencing temporary blindness.
Surveillance footage captured Torres leaving the scenes of these crimes, leading authorities to label her as a predator targeting male victims. Mitch Novick, owner of the Sherbrooke Hotel, emphasised the urgency of catching Torres to ensure the safety of the community.
It wasn’t until April 2025 that Torres was identified and arrested. She was found at a traffic stop picking up a vehicle linked to one of the robberies. Police used her driver’s license to track her down and subsequently arrested her in May. Bodycam footage from the arrest showed Torres in the company of a child, highlighting the complexities of her situation.
Initially facing two counts of first-degree robbery, Torres was held without bond. However, a recognisance bond was granted in June, ultimately leading to her plea agreement and subsequent release from the jail system. While her actions were undoubtedly serious, Torres’ case sheds light on the importance of rehabilitation and second chances.
