Nicole Scherzinger, currently starring as Norma Desmond in Broadway’s Sunset Boulevard, addressed recent backlash after commenting on a social media post by Russell Brand, who has faced significant controversy following multiple allegations.
The former Pussycat Dolls singer, 46, responded to a Nov. 5 post from Brand, who shared an image holding a red hat reading “Make Jesus First Again,” a play on former president Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Brand captioned the image with “God Bless America,” sparking further conversation on social media. In response, Scherzinger commented, “Where do I get this hat? 🙏🏽❤️,” which some quickly interpreted as a politically charged statement.
Critics took to social media, expressing concerns over her engagement with Brand, who was accused by five women of sexual misconduct in 2023, allegations he denies. Others felt Scherzinger’s comment hinted at support for Trump, resulting in a surge of backlash and calls for clarification.
Scherzinger broke her silence on Nov. 8, posting an apology on her Instagram Stories. She explained that her intent was not political and expressed regret for the confusion her comment caused. “I deeply apologize for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts. When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related, and I apologize to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion,” she wrote.
In her statement, she addressed misconceptions about her values and affiliations, emphasizing her support for marginalized communities. “Many presumptions are being drawn, which do not reflect who I am, what I stand for, or who I voted for. Many of the marginalized communities feeling hurt and concerned by the results of the presidential election are people I care about most. I stand with them, as I always have, throughout my life and career.”
Scherzinger also shared that her intentions were rooted in faith, not politics, adding that she thought the post encouraged love and spirituality. “For me, Christ embodies peace, compassion, hope, and above all — unconditional love, especially for those who may feel it the least right now,” she continued, underscoring her commitment to unity and compassion.
She concluded with a message of togetherness and empathy: “I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together. It’s so important we come together with compassion and love one another more now than ever.”
Scherzinger’s statement aims to clarify her intentions amid rising social and political tensions, underscoring her support for love, peace, and unity in the face of misunderstanding and controversy.
