Why is Princess Diana’s Iconic Philadelphia Eagles Jacket Trending?

Following the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl 59 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Princess Diana unexpectedly made headlines again.

Photos of the late Princess of Wales wearing an Eagles varsity jacket from the early ’90s went viral, leading to debates whether she was a secret fan of the team.

Diana’s famous green-and-silver jacket was given to her by Jack Edelstein, an Eagles statistician she met in 1982.

After she praised the team’s colors, Edelstein sent her some official Eagles gear, including the jacket that became a royal fashion icon.

While there’s no evidence she actually watched the games, her former bodyguard Ken Wharfe suggested she wore the jacket more for its style and comfort than for team loyalty.

Still, Eagles fans have embraced her as an honorary supporter, with longtime announcer Merrill Reese saying, “If Diana was an Eagles fan, she would be one of us.”

Eagles fans filled social media with posts honoring the late princess, joking that she would have loved their win and Kendrick’s halftime show.

Even decades later, Diana’s Eagles jacket remains a cultural sensation, with fans still searching for it.
