Sheila Atim is a Ugandan-born British actress who grew up in Rainham, Essex. Before pursuing acting, Atim studied biomedical sciences at King’s College London and was set for a career in the field. However, she caught the acting bug after taking classes at WAC Arts in Haverstock Hill under the wing of playwright Ché Walker.
Atim went on to make a name for herself in the world of theatre, having appeared in productions such as Shakespeare Trilogy and Girl From The North Country, a role she won an Olivier award for in the best supporting actress in a musical category in 2018.
In more recent years Atim has appeared in roles in TV and film and may be familiar to US audiences for her feature in Amazon series The Underground Railroad, which was released in May.

The actress has mentioned her height in interviews and revealed she is proud of her unusual look. In an interview with the Evening Standard in 2018, Atim exclaimed: “I am pushing six foot, very dark skinned, with blonde hair.”
More recently, chatting to The Guardian, she reflected: “I’m 5ft 11in and was always put in the middle of the back row on the school photo.”
