Olivia Culpo shared the frightening experience she had during the first trimester of her pregnancy when she began “bleeding everywhere” due to a blood clot in her uterus.
In a TikTok video posted on Wednesday, Culpo explained, “I’ve been on bed rest for [two weeks], and before that, I had pneumonia, so I was sick for another two weeks. I’ve essentially been on bed rest for a full four weeks.”
The video, which was filmed in December 2024 when she was 9 weeks pregnant, revealed that things took a turn for the worse.
“Towards the end of being really sick, I developed a subchorionic hematoma, which is essentially a blood clot in my uterus,” she continued. “And I was bleeding everywhere.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, this condition occurs “when blood forms between the wall of the uterus and the chorionic membrane during pregnancy.”
Culpo described the overwhelming situation, saying, “At this point, I was so exhausted from two weeks of barely being able to move, and then suddenly, I was just bleeding a lot—it was heavy bleeding.”
The 32-year-old former pageant queen then shared that after seeing a doctor, it was a relief to find that there was still a heartbeat.
To support her pregnancy, Culpo mentioned she started using “a lot” of progesterone suppositories to create the best possible environment for her baby.
Despite the scare, the model expressed her gratitude, saying she felt “really grateful that everything’s going well so far.”
Last week, the influencer revealed that she’s expecting her first child with her husband, Christian McCaffrey.
Culpo proudly showcased her growing baby bump in maternity photos on Instagram, captioning the post, “next chapter, motherhood.”
She also included several pictures with her husband as they posed together in a sunny field.
The “Culpo Sisters” star and the 28-year-old San Francisco 49ers running back have been a couple since 2019. On Saturday, the mom-to-be shared why she feels she might be having a baby boy.
In a TikTok video, she discussed some of her pregnancy symptoms, suggesting they could be clues about her baby’s sex.
While she had signs that pointed to a girl, like morning sickness and acne, Culpo said her “intuition” was leading her to believe she’s having a boy.
