Just before the Cannes Film Festival 2025 began, the organizers announced new red carpet rules: no more nudity (for “decency reasons”) and no big dresses with long trains.
The sudden change caused problems for some celebrities, including Halle Berry. At a press event, the Oscar winner—who is on the festival jury this year—shared that she had to change her outfit.
“I had an amazing dress by [Gaurav] Gupta to wear tonight, and I cannot wear it because the train’s too big,” she said, according to Reuters.
“I had to make a pivot. But the nudity part I do think is probably also a good rule.”
Berry later walked the red carpet in a stylish black-and-white striped gown by Jacquemus. It had a halter neckline and a fun pink ruffle at the back but no long train.
She was joined by fellow jury members Jeremy Strong, director Payal Kapadia, filmmaker Hong Sangsoo, actor Alba Rohrwacher, writer Leïla Slimani, documentarist Dieudo Hamadi, and filmmaker Carlos Reygadas.
Juliette Binoche is leading the jury as president.
