Lovie Smith’s wife is MaryAnne Smith, who he has been married to for 42 years. MaryAnne Smith was born on 18 January 1959 and grew up in Des Plaines, Illinois. She graduated from Forest View High in 1977 and went to the University of Tulsa, where she met her future husband.
The couple actually met on a blind date at a pizza parlour. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, MaryAnne said: “I was a sophomore and he was a junior. He drank root beer. He is a very quiet man and unassuming but very strong.”
She added: “I knew that night we were going to get married. We got engaged a month later. I had never been in love with anyone before and I wasn’t letting him go. He’s my Lovie Lee. We got married when we were still in school.”
Smith’s mother suffered from diabetes before her death in 2011, and Lovie and MaryAnne helped raise thousands of dollars for the American Diabetes Association. They also have the Lovie And MaryAnne Smith Foundation, which provides educational opportunities to young people.

They have three sons – Mikal, Miles and Matthew
Lovie and MarryAnne Smith have three children – Mikal Smith, Miles Smith and Matthew Smith.
Mikal Lee Smith was born on 16 November 1976 and played college football at the University of Arizona. Mikal was an assistant coach in the NFL for the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers for several years.
Miles Smith was born on 27 September 1989 and graduated from Lake Forest College in 2014 with a degree in history. He was defensive quality control coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2014 to 2015. In 2020, Miles joined his father on the Houston Texans’ coaching staff.

Talking to Battle Red Blog, Miles said: “I was exposed to football at an early age and, quite frankly, I just gravitated to it. I love football. Every single fall of my life it’s been all about the football season. I do think (my dad) didn’t push the football profession on me, it was me coming to him saying ‘Hey, I want to do this, how do I take these next steps?’”

Lovie’s other son, Matthew F Smith, was born on 26 August 1986 and graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor of arts in 2009. In October 2022 he got his master of business administration from Gies College Of Business.
Smith was an agent at IMG from 2012 to 2017 before becoming a director of business development at Titletown Sports Medicine And Orthopedics. From 2018 to 2021 he was a private wealth advisor for William Blair and is currently manager at DMY Holdings in Chicago.
