Deidre Hall

Deidre Hall, born on October 31, 1947, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is an American actress best known for her long-standing role as Dr. Marlena Evans on the NBC daytime drama Days of Our Lives. 

Her portrayal of Marlena Evans has earned her a loyal fan base and numerous awards, cementing her status as a soap opera legend. Hall’s successful career has also resulted in a substantial net worth, estimated at around $12 million, mainly due to her prominent role on Days of Our Lives.

Early Age

Deidre Hall was born to John and Jeanie Hall, the third of five children. She and her twin sister, Andrea, grew up in Lake Worth, Florida. Her dad, John Hall, worked as a factory worker, and her mom, Jeanie, was a homemaker. Hall initially studied psychology, a field she was passionate about before her acting career took off. Her decision to pursue acting came after she and Andrea moved to Los Angeles, where they initially took up modeling and commercial work.

Education

Hall attended Lake Worth High School, where she was an active student in various extracurricular activities. After high school, she enrolled at Palm Beach Junior College, where she studied psychology. 

During college, she spent a summer in Los Angeles and was introduced to acting and modeling. 

Career

Deidre Hall’s acting career began with modeling and commercials, but she quickly transitioned to television. She appeared in several TV shows in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including roles on Emergency! and The Young and the Restless. 

Her big break came in 1976 when she was cast as Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives. Her portrayal of Marlena, a psychiatrist, became iconic, and Hall became one of the most recognized faces in daytime TV. 

She won several awards, including the Soap Opera Digest and Soapy Awards. Hall also starred in the family drama Our House and appeared in other TV shows and movies, further showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Personal Life

Deidre Hall’s personal life has been as dynamic as her professional one. She has been married four times: to William Hudson, Keith Barbour, Michael Dubelko, and Steve Sohmer. With Sohmer, she has two sons, David and Tully, who were born via surrogacy. 

Hall’s experiences with motherhood and fertility treatments have made her an advocate for surrogacy and fertility issues. 

She dated Louisiana State Senator Ned Randolph in the early 1980s and remains close friends with fellow soap opera star Jane Elliot.
