Tyler has gained notable recognition for her television roles and voice acting work. Her prominence surged with her portrayal of Andrea Marino in the supernatural drama Ghost Whisperer and further solidified through her role as a co-host on The Talk, where she earned a Daytime Emmy Award. 

Additionally, her voice acting as Lana Kane in the animated series ‘Archer’ highlights her versatility in the industry. Tyler stands 5 feet 11 inches (1.81 meters) tall, which complements her commanding on-screen presence.

Early Life

Diverse experiences marked Aisha Tyler’s early life. Born to Robin Gregory, a teacher, and James Tyler, a photographer, her family briefly lived in Ethiopia before returning to the United States. 

They also lived in an ashram in Oakland, California. Tyler’s parents divorced when she was ten years old, and she was primarily raised by her father. Tyler’s maternal great-grandfather, Thomas Montgomery Gregory, was a dramatist and educator, and her great-great-grandfather was a professor at Howard University. 

During her high school years at McAteer High School in San Francisco, part of the School of the Arts program, Tyler developed an interest in comedy, partly inspired by her crush on fellow student Sam Rockwell. This interest led her to pursue acting classes, laying the groundwork for her future career.

Education

Tyler attended Dartmouth College, graduating in 1992. At Dartmouth, she was actively involved in the college community. She was a member of The Tabard, a co-ed fraternity, and co-founded the Dartmouth Rockapellas, an all-female acapella group focused on social awareness through song. 

After graduating, Tyler briefly worked in advertising in San Francisco before embarking on a nationwide comedy tour. In 1996, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her comedy career, eventually leading to her notable achievements in television and film.

Career

Aisha Tyler’s career took off in 2001 when she became the host of ‘Talk Soup’ and ‘The 5th Wheel.’ Although ‘Talk Soup’ was cancelled the following year, Tyler’s career flourished with roles in various television shows, including ‘Friends,’ where she played Dr Charlie Wheeler. 

She also had recurring roles on ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ and ’24.’ Tyler gained further recognition for her role in ‘Ghost Whisperer’ and as the voice of Lana Kane in ‘Archer.’ 

Her directorial debut came with the film ‘Axis,’ funded through Kickstarter and premiered at several film festivals. Tyler has also been involved in print media, writing books, and participating in philanthropy.

Personal Life

According to various sources, Aisha Tyler was married to attorney Jeff Tietjens, and their marriage began in 1992 or 1994. The couple separated in January 2015, and their divorce was finalized in May 2017. 

Since the divorce, Tyler has kept her personal life relatively private.
