Twitter Inc. Appoints Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala As A Member Of Board Of Directors

Jack Patrick Dorsey, CEO and Co Founder Twitter Inc. on 19th July, 2018, announced the appointments of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Robert Zoellick to its Board of Directors effective immediately. This comes as a result of Marjorie Scardino’s stepping down from the Board for personal reasons at the end of the year.

According to Omid Kordestani, Executive Chairman of Twitter, Ngozi and Bob are distinguished leaders with unparalleled global perspectives and policy expertise. “We are confident they will be incredible assets to Twitter as we continue to focus on driving transparency and making Twitter a safer, healthier place for everyone who uses our service,” he said.

Mr. Kordestani also thanked Majorie for her service over the years saying, “On behalf of the Twitter Board, I want to thank Marjorie for her service on the Twitter Board over the past five years. Marjorie joined the Board in 2013 and has been a strong voice on our board as our Lead Independent Director. Marjorie’s insights and contributions have been invaluable, and all of us at Twitter wish her the best and look forward to her contributions through the end of the year.”

About Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, born on the 13th of June, 1954 is a Nigerian economist and the first female Minister of Finance in Nigeria.

She has previously served under two terms as Nigeria’s Finance Minister from 2003-2006 and 2011-2015. The terms being under the leadership of President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Umaru Musa Yaradu’a respectively. She was also the Managing Director of the World Bank between 2007-2011, and currently, she chairs the Board of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) and the African Risk Capacity (ARC).

July 2017 saw Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala being named as an independent non-executive director at Standard Chartered Plc in the United Kingdom.

She is married to Dr Ikemba Iweala, a neurosurgeon from Umuahia, Abia State, and together, they have four children.
