Adorned by Chi, an anime-inspired story which borrows elements from the Nigerian Igbo Culture and Folklore is about to be developed into comic books, literature, film, television, animation and merchandise. Jacque Aye, the creator of Adorned by Chi made this announcement after signing a deal with entertainment and media company MWM Universe.
Adorned by Chi which draws its inspiration from the Japanese Magical Girl genre is about a young and introverted Nigerian student, Adaeze. Adaeze possesses goddess-like powers which she then uses to lead a team of young warriors whose collective mission is to prevent an apocalyptic monster from destroying all of humanity.
MWM Universe’s Morgan Kruger and Diana Williams released a statement saying that,
Jacque Aye’s fresh and nerdy approach to expanding manga and celebrating diversity is more important than ever. Her ability to weave a story and characters that resonate with both women and men in the shifting anime genre is impressive.
Speaking about her recent deal with MWM Universe, Jacque Aye says that:
“I set out to create Adorned by Chi because I wanted to see myself, a young Nigerian-American woman, reflected in the genre I and many others enjoyed so much growing up. It’s been a joy crafting this world and I look forward to expanding my vision with the help of MWM in not only the current merchandise but animation, comics and more!”
