Halle Berry has a message for those who say she “can’t keep a man.”
During her appearance on the February 24 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, where she promoted her menopause platform Respin, the 58-year-old actress talked about her relationships and mentioned, “I found my guy later in life,” referring to musician Van Hunt.
When host Barrymore, who is also divorced three times, asked Berry about how people meet these days, Berry replied, “Drew, I used to have this problem too.”
Barrymore added, “I mean, it’s hard out here.” Berry agreed, saying, “It’s hard in these streets.”
She addressed the criticism, stating, “I’ve heard people say, ‘Something must be wrong with Halle Berry, she can’t keep a man.’ Who’s to say I want to keep a man? I don’t want to keep the wrong man. Like, I’m not crazy, right? So when you find that you make a mistake — we all make mistakes. We have a right to say, ‘Oh God, this was a mistake. Let me start again.’ We have the right to do that.”
Berry, who claims she “manifested” her current relationship with Hunt, 54, shared on the talk show that she has “always been a romantic” and envisioned herself as a wife with children.
The actress confessed that “the career that I have is not what I ever saw for myself. I thought family and love would come first.”
When discussing what makes her relationship with Hunt different, she noted that before him, “I always focused on what I didn’t want, and you know what I did? I manifested that because the universe only hears the action, right? They don’t hear the ‘don’t’ part.”
Berry has an 11-year-old son, Maceo-Robert, with ex-husband Olivier Martinez and a 16-year-old daughter, Nahla, with ex Gabriel Aubry.
She has also been married to former MLB player David Justice and singer-songwriter Eric Benét.
In September, Berry told Marie Claire that she took a three-year break from dating after her 2015 split from Martinez, describing it as a “sabbatical to understand me.”
She admitted, “I had never been that intentional with my relationships. I was loosey-goosey with that. You have to be clear with the universe [or] any old thing will find you.”
