According to the BBC, witnesses reported that Ndlovu was working at a motorsport event in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday night when a man forced himself on her.

This is coming on the heels of series of protests against Gender-Based Violence in South Africa. Last week, South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa announced that he was committing 1.1 billion Rand to the fight against Gender Based Violence in South Africa. He also announced an emergency plan to curb the rising assaults. However, it does not seem like his actions are having enough effect.

The death of Sinethemba Ndlovu is the most recent murder and has stirred national outrage. In August this year, another woman, Uyinene Mrwetyana, a student of the University of Cape Town was gruesomely raped and murdered. She was thought to be missing until the police discovered her body one week later.

There have been calls for a stricter punishment like death penalty in South Africa. The hashtag #AmINext is also trending on social media.

This hashtag is being used to emphasize the frequency of the attacks and how South African women are in a vulnerable position.
