{"id":546,"date":"2024-06-29T04:34:18","date_gmt":"2024-06-29T04:34:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/urbanwomanmag.com\/africa\/?p=546"},"modified":"2024-06-29T04:34:22","modified_gmt":"2024-06-29T04:34:22","slug":"nigerian-woman-doubles-world-record-time-for-longest-crocheting-marathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/urbanwomanmag.com\/africa\/nigerian-woman-doubles-world-record-time-for-longest-crocheting-marathon\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian Woman Doubles World Record Time For Longest Crocheting Marathon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">A Nigerian woman, Chidinma Modupe Okafor, has been certified by the Guinness World Records as the new record holder for the longest crocheting marathon with a time of 72 hours.<br><br>The Guinness World Records confirmed in a post via its website that Chidinma made a white dinner gown during her three-day \u201ccrochet-a-thon\u201d.<br><br>The 30-year-old shattered the previous record of 34 hr 7 minutes set by Alessandra Hayden, USA, in 2021.<br><br>Crocheting is the process of creating textiles or clothing by using a hook to interlock loops of yarn or wool.<br><br>To successfully achieve the record, Chidinma had to crochet continuously without any significant breaks. <br><br>As soon as she finished one ball of yarn, she immediately began working on the next. <br><br>This relentless effort demonstrated her incredible dedication and stamina.<br><br>As with all \u2018longest marathon\u2019 record attempts, Chidinma was permitted a total of two hours of rest per day (five minutes per hour of crocheting). <br><br>Only during these breaks could she eat, sleep, use the toilet or change her clothes.<br><br>My preparation for the record attempt involved rigorous training and mental conditioning,\u201d she revealed.<br><br>\u201cIt also required physical endurance and strategizing to maintain a consistent pace while minimizing fatigue.<br><br>\u201cAdditionally, logistics such as arranging for sufficient yarn with support staff were crucial for the uninterrupted progress of the attempt.\u201d<br><br>She drew inspiration from her compatriot Hilda Baci, who last year performed the world\u2019s longest cooking marathon.<br><br>Chidinma is one of several Nigerians who\u2019ve broken a world record following Hilda\u2019s famous cook-a-thon, including Helen Williams (longest wig and widest wig), Ewa Cole (longest marathon singing Christmas songs), Clara Chizoba Kronborg (longest interviewing marathon), and Tonye Solomon (most steps climbed on a ladder while balancing a football on the head).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Nigerian woman, Chidinma Modupe Okafor, has been certified by the Guinness World Records as the new record holder for the longest crocheting marathon with a time of 72 hours.
