5 Makeup Retouching Tips to Maintain a Fresh Look All Day

No matter how long-wearing your makeup products are, you will still see them break down slowly as the hours pass. The various activities you engage in throughout the day, as well as your skin’s natural sebum production, can cause color intensity to fade and shine to develop on the T-zone.

To keep your makeup intact for as long as needed, touching up is a must. However, most women find touch-ups tricky.

5 Makeup Retouching Tips to Maintain a Fresh Look All Day

Applying powder to remove shine, for example, can make the foundation thick and cakey. Also, it is believed that touching up can contaminate makeup because of the dirt that has already settled on the skin after being exposed to the elements after some time.

So, how should you touch up your makeup to keep your look fresh? Here are the proper ways to do so.

1. Get rid of eyeshadow creasing and fallout with a Q-tip

After hours of having eyeshadow and undereye concealer on, you might notice some creasing on your lids and under your eyes. Plus, if you used eyeshadow that’s not necessarily the best quality, you may also find some fallout under your eyes, even if you primed your eyes.

You can take care of these issues by using a Q-tip to blot over them. This technique will get rid of the makeup buildup in the fine lines or creases of your eyes, as well as fallouts and smudges, without disturbing the rest of your eye makeup.

2. Use oil blotting paper to take care of the shine

Instead of reaching for finishing powder or a powder foundation to remove the shine on your face, use oil blotting paper. One fantastic brand to use is the Palladio oil absorbing blotting rice paper. It not only absorbs oil, but also applies a thin layer of rice powder to mattify the skin. Just press this product gently onto your skin to refresh your makeup.

If you do not have this product, though, what you can do is to use a facial tissue as a substitute. But, instead of just pressing it on your skin to pick up oil, get a fluffy brush that is loaded with a bit of powder foundation or finishing powder and brush it against the tissue to blot and refresh your look.

This is a trick used by professional makeup artists long before oil blotting paper became popular. The advantage with this trick is that you can implement it all over your face and the final result is the look of freshly applied makeup.

3. Curl those lashes

It’s amazing to see the kind of lift you can get from gently curling your eyelashes again after a few hours of having your makeup on. A single, gentle press from an eyelash curler will do the job of making those lashes perky again. This will reinforce the curl supported by your mascara.

If you have falsies on, however, ditch the eyelash curler. Instead, use your index fingers to lift them up. Just put your fingers in front of your eyes and blink down on your fingers.

However, if you aim to get a more natural look, you can also try wearing eyelash extensions that are customized for different eye shapes, lengths, and volumes. You can book monthly lash extension appointments but a more reasonable option is doing it yourself, simply get a pack with the necessary equipment, most brands offer a kit that comes with tweezers, sealers, and glue along with the set. Although, make sure you watch tutorials and try applying the extension set several times before you do lash extensions at home for the first time!

4. Remove and reapply your lipstick

When your lip color has become patchy, head to the restroom and wipe it all off. If you have brought a lip balm with you, rehydrate your lips and rub off flakes before reapplying your lipstick. This is the best way to get a fresh look for your lips.

Here’s an additional lip color tip: It’s better to just use a regular lipstick instead of those lip tars or lipstick formulas that set for 12 hours or so. While these products may lock onto your lips, they do not look fresh for a long time, especially after a meal. They tend to look patchy and make your lips wrinkly.

So just opt for a high-quality formula for a regular lipstick that you can reapply when you need to.

5. Spritz your face with a setting spray again

If you find that touching up your face has reduced the natural skin-like finish of your makeup, restore the healthy dewiness of your skin with a setting spray. This will not only bring the glow back to your face, but it can also extend the wear of your makeup.

With these easy retouching tips, you can restore the fresh appearance of your makeup look in no time.
